The invention of the one-time pad was incorrectly attributed to the wrong inventor for almost 100 years, until the original inventor was discovered in 2011. This follows a long tradition in cryptology of giving credit to the wrong inventor. Although the one-time pad is famous for being unbreakable, three historic examples will show three different ways in which this unbreakable cipher device was broken, with devastating results.
