The Cold War usually ran at a higher temperature than its name implies: the major wars in Korea and Vietnam were obvious hotspots in the timeline—as were several close calls involving nuclear weapons. And somewhere in the middle of those decades between the end of World War II and the fall of the Berlin Wall, there occurred a “strange and sinister drama,” which was apparently best experienced with “a taste of the ambassador’s cognac.” [This presentation is suitable for general audiences, allowing for the inclusion of a few instances of material that may be considered somewhat age-inappropriate for younger children.]
